Picnic rescheduled to Sept 30th

Due to some conflicts that affect many members of the Wyatt Farm community, the annual picnic has been rescheduled for Friday, September 30th. Join us at the pavilion for grilled burgers and hot dogs, as well as other dishes provided by you and your neighbors. The bouncy castle will make its annual appearance, and there may be some additional surprises as well. We’ll get started by 5:00 pm, but come and go as you like. More info later.

Save the date! The annual Wyatt Farm Community Picnic will be held on Friday, September 16th at the pavilion. Great grilled food and lots of friendly faces! As usual, you bring a side dish or dessert to share and we’ll provide everything else. The castle moon bounce will be back and there may be some new surprises! Additional reminders will be posted and sent out closer to the event. We look forward to seeing you!

Yard Sale on May 21

The residents of the Wyatt Farm neighborhood are invited to participate in a yard sale in conjunction with Woodbine and Mt. Tabor Meadows. The sale is scheduled for Saturday, May 21, with a rain date of May 28.

Annual Meeting on Nov. 16

Wyatt Farm homeowners should plan on attending the annual meeting for all members, to be held this year on Tuesday, November 16th at 7:00 pm at Blacksburg Christian Fellowship. We will discuss recent activities, future plans, the budget, and any concerns you may have. We will also accept nominations for positions on the Wyatt Farm Board of Directors. Hope to see you there!

Adopt a Tree

You may have noticed the new trees that the Homeowners Association planted in the playground area this spring. So far, the trees are growing well. However, with the coming of the hot and potentially dry season, it is important that we keep these trees watered. So, we’re asking you to consider helping by “adopting” a tree.

Small markers have been placed at the base of the most vulnerable trees. To “adopt” a tree simply write your family name on the marker with a waterproof felt-tip pen. Then make certain that the tree receives 6 to 10 gallons of water per week (preferably not all at once; 6 if we get significant rain, 10 if not). Note that we do not yet have an outlet at the shelter so you will need to bring water from your home.

Yard Sale

Wyatt Farm is joining with Woodbine and Mt. Tabor Meadows for a massive yard sale on Saturday, May 22nd starting at 8:00 AM. Everyone is encouraged to participate. This yard sale will be well-promoted, including in the New River Current section in the days leading up to it. So clear out some of your old stuff! See this flyer for more details.

Annual Meeting / Playground Approved

The 2009 Annual Meeting of the Wyatt Farm Homeowners Association, held on December 10, was well attended and had lively discussions. Outgoing HOA President Tom Rubenstein led the meeting and discussed various activities that the HOA Board of Directors has been involved in this past year.

The playground committee, made up of Julie Hodge, Kristine Lattimer, John Lewis, and Sarah Woolsey, presented their proposal for the installation and maintenance of a playground in the Wyatt Farm Commons area near the pavilion. A question-and-answer period followed, and finally a vote was taken. Including proxy votes, the playground was approved with a vote of 71 in favor and 4 against. Installation of the playground and additional landscaping will take place in the spring.

The HOA Board and the membership in general expressed their warmest regards to Tom Rubenstein for the excellent leadership he has provided our neighborhood during his tenure as president. The Board will determine who will serve as president for the 2010 at their January meeting.

Town Council to meet about Mountain Breeze development

At their Tuesday, November 10th meeting, the Blacksburg Town Council will consider the development proposal for nearby Mountain Breeze Drive, which includes multi-family housing, a cultural center, and religious assembly. The Planning Commission previously decided in their October 6th meeting to recommend rejecting the multi-family housing portion and approving the rest. The decision now goes to the Town Council. You may want to make your views known regarding this issue.
